Do you ever look in the mirror after a long night’s hybernation and wonder why you still look a little zombie-like? Sometimes, it still lingers hours after waking up! Skin can look discolored, sleepy, and bland. It’s time to introduce good habits to help wake up yo face!

 

 

Let’s start with some simple face-savers:


Wash yo face!

Do this morning and evening and get the day’s sweat, makeup and unnecessary oils off that beautiful skin of yours. Try using steamy, warm water to open up your pores and let that sneaky dirt that likes to hide there meet it’s maker (the long & lonely drain).

 

 

 

Breathe

Inhale....hold (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) ...exhale. Repeat this a few times. Deep breathing will help bring the oxygen back into your body and get the blood flowing right back into those kissable cheeks. Meditation and breathing exercises also help clear your mind and chase away the stress and anxiety monsters. There are some fantastic apps that can help guide your breathing!

 

 

 

Drink H20

Even if we failed your high school Chemistry class, we all know that stands for WATER! A reasonable goal is to drink eight 8 oz glasses of water daily. Drink while you get ready, while you work and workout, and keep a glass by your bedside for when you’re parched in the middle of the night. If you are always on the go, bring a reusable water bottle with you! It’s good for the environment and good for your body’s ecosystem too!

 

 

Those tips are so simple to follow and will surely make a difference in your health and the way your face glows!

Here are a few more tips for those ambitious and dedicated humans:

 

 

Exfoliate your skin

Try combining 1 tbsp of Coconut oil and 2 tbsp of sugar, then give your face a good scrub-a-dub. The skin on your face is fragile (especially around the eyes), so use your middle & ring fingers to scrub with light pressure. Use this on your lips to make them more luscious and then lick it right off (after all, the ingredients are edible).

 

 

Try a Jade Roller

This is simply a cool jade stone crafted into a nifty tool. Roll it onto your skin to relieve dark circles, puffiness, and tighten up your skin. Focus on your under eye area and any place that you feel needs awakening. You can let the jade roller sit in a bowl of ice for a few minutes to add a kick to the coolness!

 

 

Use a sheet mask

The Sephora brand face masks are crazy amazing and will have your skin joyously exclaiming, “Holy Sheet!” They are easy to use and barely make a mark in your bank account. Mellow’s favorites for brightening and awakening include the "Lychee mask" and the "Rose mask."

 

 

Visit a professional

Sometimes our skin needs major rescuing! Dermatologists and Estheticians can help release that goddess trapped beneath old, dead, or damaged skin— kind of like Moana released the beautiful Te Fiti from her crusty, volcanic form. Try microdermabrasion, chemical peels or laser resurfacing treatments if it is recommended for your skin.

Caution, my friend: do not attempt to do any of these treatments on yourself. There’s a reason these tasks are left to licensed professionals and doctors. You could end up permanently damaging and scaring your pretty little epidermis.

 

 

Smile, girl!

No amount of scrubbing, makeup, filters, or facial treatments will beat the stunning glory of a smile. Nothing makes your face glow more than a grin! Happiness looks so good on you.
