The Power of a Smile
It’s surprising how many people actually hate eating cheese, and even more surprising how many people don’t smile as much as they once did.
Children smile about 400 times a day, while the average HAPPY adult smiles 40-50 times, and the typical adult smiles 20 times a day.
We’re no longer smiling in our profile pictures (duck-face & bored-face have taken over), we ignore other human beings in stores and coffee shops, and we spend more time staring at people fake smiling in photos as we scroll Instagram than we do actually enjoying our own lives with a genuine smile!
Sure, you can’t turn back time to become a smiley kid again, but you’ll want to up your “smile count” when you find out there are so many benefits from a simple smile!
Never mind the yellow teeth, braces, or crooked grin you may be sporting, YOUR gorgeous smile can benefit you personally and others outwardly— just make it genuine.
Smiling makes you seem more likable, trustworthy, and approachable to others.
We have all had cloudy days where we are out and about and someone flashes us with a powerful smile that wipes away all our sadness, if only for a minute.
There have even been accounts of people who have been ready to end their lives because they felt useless or alone. They changed their minds when someone gave them a genuine smile, bringing back hope and childlike joy.
When you exercise those small facial muscles and bust a grin, neurotransmitters like dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin are all released into your body. That means a smile can lower heart rates, reduce blood pressure, increase endurance, reduce stress and pain, and strengthen immune systems.
Really, do it.
Even if you have to force a smile— do it long enough and that smile will become REAL and genuine.
You may look a little creepy smiling at your screen for no reason, but the benefits are incredible.
There is so much POWER in a smile.
